My name is Vincent van de Bijl. I am a Dutch musician and songwriter, living in Zuidlaren, the Netherlands.
I'm a teacher at a high school, am married and have two daughters. I started out as a drummer, but I sing and play guitar more and more. I've played drums in lots of bands in Groningen, like Onakentona and Whipster. You can listen to a couple of songs which I recorded with them under the "Musical History" page.
As Vinz Hatchet, or Mr. Hatchet I have created my own home recorded album, This Side Of Heaven, in March 2017. I sang and played most instruments myself, as well as editing and producing, except for solo's and other specialities. I want to write songs about all things that keep me busy in life. Although I did not intend to make a concept album it has become one. A couple of songs are about my father, and others about my mixed feelings and doubts. So this album is about life and its faith, hope, love, doubts and strife.
Great influences are Johnny Cash, Neil Young, The Band, Tom Waits, Amos Lee, Catherine McLellan, Ron Sexsmith, Ray LaMontagne, Bonnie Prince Billy, a.o.
About my sound: I like the sounds and music of The Carlton Chronicles of South San Gabriel. It sounds like the band is right in front of you or in your own living room. That is also the case with Bonnie Prince Billy. I also feel inspired by Jason Upton's "On The Rim Of The Visible World", on which he not only sings about his faith, but also about all the other things in life. He recorded it in his own house and I like that sound.
